After a few too many beers and some greasy food on Friday night, I learned something that I have never, ever considered.
Suz was the one who pointed it out.
Dave and I are an odd couple.
Dave immediately agreed.
I did not. I stared at them. I made my classic confused face. I scowled. I protested.
"No we're not! We're so similar!" I blurted out.
"Are you KIDDING?" Dave asked.
Suz added, "No. False. You guys definitely look like the odd couple."
"Nuh uh!" I said, ever so eloquent.
"Yes," Suz continued. "When my friend saw pictures of you two for the first time, she was like, 'They're engaged?' Most people just wouldn't see it."
"What? No, we totally look like a well-matched couple," I said.
Dave said, "Elle, look at me. And look at you."
I looked. "Okay, and?" I said.
"And look at how you're dressed versus how I'm dressed," he continued. "You wear nice clothes, look cute, very clean-cut. I dress like shit. I always wear a hat. I've got the piercings. I haven't shaved in a while."
I don't know if I grossly overestimate Dave's put-together appearance or underestimate my own. (Yeah, let's go with that. I'm simply MUCH more put-together than I think I am. Totally. MILES AHEAD OF DAVE.)
But, really, do you guys see it, this "odd couple" thing? And, People Who Know Us In Real Life, did YOU ever think that?

I think I need to defend myself here. You are complete opposites of one another,not odd, just opposites. Like I said that night, you are so to the point and anal and detail oriented and Dave is very "why is the sky blue?". (BTW I know the sentence structure of that last sentence was like nails on a chalkboard for you) It's your differences that make you two so perfect for one another. I have never met a couple I've been more sure of than you two.
Perfect complements in my book. You may ACT like the Odd Couple but you look too f*ing cute in my book :)
I haven't once thought that you guys are odd. Then again, I am lucky to have known you for a while.
But I think things are best summed up as, "AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW" That is what I usually say when I see pictures of you two.

I have had the exact same conversation. I've come to embrace it though because I've found that he brings out the qualities in me that I wouldn't have without him, and vice versa. I suspect it's the same with the two of you.
