Renters 4 life

This is what $730k would buy me in Cleveland:

It even has its own tennis court. TENNIS COURT.

This is what $730k would buy me in Chicago:
That, my friends, is why it's unlikely that I will be a homeowner as long as I live in this beautiful, beautiful city. I love it so, but... damn.

Oh man, my husband and I have played that game one too many times. We live in Vancouver, BC and the real estate here is ridiculous. The part of town we used to rent in, you can't find a 2-bedroom condo for less than about $500,000. He's originally from Saskatoon, SK, where all his friends our ages bought houses years ago! We always play the comparison game! You could get a huge beautiful house in Saskatoon for the price we paid for our condo here! The worst is watching those property virgin shows when they're buying their first home for like $400,000 and they're getting pools and 3-car garages. At least, at the end of the day, we live in wicked cities....right?

Kage: Right. I love this city too. Glad you can commiserate but also sorry you have to share the pain!

Ang: Well, duh, but I could bulldoze it and make it into a nice sun deck and pool, complete with cabanas and drinks with little umbrellas. And don't worry, I'm not going anywhere!

I totally understand where you are coming from! My husband and I own a condo in Wicker Park and it can e a bit demoralizing when we realize that in other areas we could have gotten a huge house for what we paid for our 1300 sqft. Sometimes we think about moving to the suburbs in the far away future, but I reeeaaaallllyy don't want to leave the city!

Wow, that really was an amazing comparison. Admittedly, I'm a closet "House Hunters" fan and we often talk about stuff just like this when comparing cities. But trust me, that's still not a good enough reason to move to Cleveland. LOL.
