Goodbye to high-dose hormones

As some of you know, my super shitty insurance caused me to explore more affordable birth control options. Meaning, I needed to switch to generic. Since they don't make a generic version of my precious Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, I had to deviate from my prescription of six years to the Terrifying TriNessa.

TriNessa, you see, is the generic version of regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Since I'm already pretty high-strung, pumping more hormones into me is... well... not the best idea.

Which I now realize.

So anyway, after making Dave's life a living hell for one solid month, I took it upon myself to switch back to the unaffordable-but-better-for-my-marriage pill. Results so far have been noticeable.

Me: Man, I'm already feeling better.

Dave: What do you mean?

Me: Like, more mellow.

Dave: Oh, after getting off those pills that made you crazy?

He would have paid for that, had this been two weeks ago.

Me: Yeah. There were definitely times when I wanted to get shitty with you today, but I just figured, eh, it's not a big deal.

Dave: Wow, I wonder if you OFF birth control altogether will make you Cool Elle.

Me: Uh, what?

Dave: I mean... CoolER Elle.

Me: You fucker.

I too realized that I would have to have the low dose pills and when they switched for a month it was horrible. I pay full price for my precious OTC-Lo but wouldn't have it any other way.

I am on Ortho and use TriNessa and honestly I can't tell the difference. I haven't had any TriNessa issues and feel fine with it. Don't be scared!

I am not on birth control. I believe women should be able to turn on and off their birthing functions like they do their sex drives and attraction to men.

I have definitely caught the crazies before but appear to have leveled out somewhat. And Dave. Seriously. As a scientist, I should think you know what kind off Elle you get when you take her off the pill.

Double Elle. Double Elle who is FURIOUS 99% of them and pummeling you before (knock on wood) the fruits of thy looms spring forth. Bad plan, friend. Very bad plan.

That might be my problem. I use a generic, because that's what I can afford, and not even sure I want to pay $70 a month for BC. I pay $8 :)

C'mon, you gotta cut him some slack for dealing with Insane Elle first.

He marries Crazy Elle, he's stuck! :o)

Birth control shot. Cured my crazy 5-7 days per month, and I only have to worry about it every 3 months.

I'd like to see a guy deal for one day within his own body with female roller coaster hormones and periods. See what he says then.

WOW, I have been on Ortho Cyclen for the past few months and it has made me batshit crazy. I'm getting off it in two weeks and counting down the days.

I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one but I'm glad that you're switching too!

Birth control turns me into a raging psycho bitch from hell. Every single time I've been on it. Even the low-dose stuff. But the lower-dose stuff helps a lot of people, so I hope it works well for you!

Delurking to comment on birth control (because, really, what better reason to delurk?).

I'm on Aviane, which I think is similar to what a generic version of Ortho Tri Cyclen low should be. (It annoys me they don't have a generic Ortho Low, but anyway...) Apparently it's low dose hormones. Works well, I only notice 1 or 2 crazy days a month :-)

Ah yes. The dreaded hor-mon-eees. How I love them. And by love them, I mean that I hate what a blithering idiot I've become since becoming pregnant again.

*sighs*

3 more months.

Ugh. I will have to tell you about my Yaz® Attacks the month I started Yaz. Horrible.

But at least my boobs haven't grown 2 full cup sizes like they have with my previous birth controls.

Attacks are better than babies, though.

OK - have you ever seen that SNL skit where the women skip their periods, but then explode in a rage when they finally do get it?

It's hilarious.

Just wanted to tell you about that.

Oh man. When I first got on BC, I was SO tweaked out by all the hormones that I spent the first THREE MONTHS I was on it crying my eyes out for no reason at all.

But now that I'm used to it, I don't think I'll ever fuck with it. Even if I can't afford cereal and have to live on ramen, I will always shell out the money for birth control.

I'm actually on the exact same BC you are. I switched to the Trinessa one once too and it was a rather terrible experience. I was SUPER moody and such (read: stay away from that stuff). Why is it that birth control is so ridiculously expensive while Viagra seems to be covered on EVERY insurance plan out there?

My ex-fiance, then girlfriend, had to switch to generic birth control once and FLIPPED HER SHIT. She yelled all the time, made her mom cry, threw things at me... Crazy. Then, she got back on the good stuff, and was fine.
We call it "The time we do not speak of" now. No joke.
